Marco Polo Programme
The Marco Polo programme was launched by CRUI – Conference of Italian University Rectors in 2004, upon the direct request of the Presidency of the Italian Republic, with the aim to strengthen scientific collaboration with China and increase attendance of Chinese students in Italian universities.
Thanks to the intergovernmental agreement between the two countries, Chinese students who apply for pre-enrolment in a bachelor ’s or master’s degree course of an Italian university (or in a course delivered by an Italian Higher Artistic and Musical Education university institution under the Turandot programme) can more easily obtain a visa to enter Italy for study purposes.
To obtain a visa, students shall:
- pre-enrol in their chosen course one year in advance;
- have pursuedat least 400 scores out of 750 at the “Gaokao” or National College Entrance Exam;
- enrol in the Italian language preparatory courseat an Italian university delivering such a course.
The Italian language preparatory course shall be attended in Italy before the academic year when the degree course in which interested students have pre-enrolled will start and shall last for a minimum of 10 months.
